05 November, 2024
We are thrilled to share that KAUST is leading the way in sustainability by recycling approximately 60% of our municipal solid waste as of September 2024! This achievement represents a nearly 5% improvement from our 2023 recycling rate of 55%. Even more encouraging is the slight decrease in our overall waste generation. However, there’s still work to be done, especially in food waste recovery, which holds tremendous potential for further enhancements.
Currently, we are successfully recycling around 45-55% of the food waste generated at KAUST. Yet, an equal volume of food waste continues to be tossed into non-recyclable bins, ending up in landfills and contributing to greenhouse gas emissions. This is where YOU can make a difference!
Here’s How You Can Help:
We invite all residents who haven’t yet registered for the composting program to sign up! By segregating food waste at home and participating in the KAUST Composting Program, you can help divert food waste from landfills and support our sustainability goals.
Remember:
Properly separate food waste to avoid contamination. Contaminated waste complicates the composting process and requires extra resources to address.
If you haven’t joined the program yet, now is the perfect time to contribute to KAUST’s recycling efforts! Together, we can build a more sustainable community.
