The Winter Enrichment Program will return back in 2022 from January 9–20 under the theme Resilience. The WEP is chaired by Associate Professor Peiying Hong and co-chaired by Associate Professor Derya Baran.
Meet international and in-Kingdom prominent academics from leading universities, eminent speakers, industry leaders, entrepreneurs, elite athletes, artists, and officials as we explore tipping points, such as stress events like climate change, resource shortages, rapid population growth, pandemics, and more. The WEP will feature two weeks of 65+ events and 70+ speakers at KAUST.

Join us on Sunday, January 9 at 5:30 p.m. to celebrate the start of the WEP 2022. President Tony Chan will open this event, followed by an address from our provost, Larry Carin, and a virtual opening keynote lecture from Jeffrey Sachs, a world-renowned economics professor, bestselling author, innovative educator, and global leader in sustainable development. The event will also feature climate music by Stephan Crawford, Erik Walker, Wendy Lumis. Professor David Keyes and will close with a poetry reading, uniquely written by him.
The signature event will take place daily at lunchtime from 12–1 p.m. and in the evening from 5:30–6.30 p.m. in the auditorium (building 20).
The discussions will focus on climate change, water security, food security, computational data, digital resilience, health resilience, and much more to deepen your technical knowledge and challenge your critical thinking.
This program is open to the entire KAUST community and international and in-Kingdom guests.
We hope that the theme Resilience can inspire the global community, regardless of different perspectives and backgrounds, to come together in a collaborative manner to address various adversities.
