Pop-Up Art Exhibition: Lightscapes of the Night

Do not miss this unique pop-up art exhibition of Nelson Ferreira's unconventional 'Lightscapes of the Night' paintings. These convey an unusual visual experience that can only be truly enjoyed in a dark location.

Date: Tuesday, May 28

Time: 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Venue: Community Hub, Discovery Square

Nelson's PlatiGleam series challenges artistic norms by exploring the intersection of tradition and innovation. The series of paintings was created in 2023 in Portugal, at the 14th century UNESCO site of Batalha Monastery, during the artist's residency period on-site. The works present a synthesis of centuries-old classical mastery and cutting-edge vision, culminating in an innovative visual experience. In a departure from conventional methods, Ferreira's PlatiGleam paintings use no paint. Instead, they utilize light refraction and diffraction instead of traditional pigments.

This bold shift rethinks the use of color and form, marking a significant turn in contemporary art. Indeed, the PlatiGleam series heralds a new era in post-contemporary art, as Ferreira defines it. For him, this body of work represents a turning point where classical knowledge reclaims its rightful place at the forefront of artistic discourse. In the age of conceptual abstraction, Ferreira's insistence on classical craftsmanship and technical mastery serves as a beacon of inspiration.
