Participate in the KAUST Recycling Quiz and attend the Open House at the KAUST Waste Transfer Station
In celebration of Global Recycling Day, KAUST Facilities Management is proud to announce that KAUST achieved a recycling rate of about 55%, up from 32% the year before, for municipal waste from our regular operations and activities in 2023. This significant progress reflects our journey toward a more sustainable community; a journey made possible through the dedication and support of our community members and partners.
In the last 5 years, KAUST Waste Management accomplished the remarkable feat of recycling an estimated 9,500 metric tons of municipal solid waste. The array of materials recycled includes not just the usual suspects like cardboard and paper, but also spans a spectrum from ferrous and nonferrous metals to plastics and even used cooking oil.
Once collected, these materials are meticulously sorted at our waste facility to meet and even exceed local recycling industry standards before being transformed into compact bales. Beyond our internal processes, we have also collaborated with local manufacturers, supplying our recyclables to their production lines.
Waste Transfer Station Tour: Join us for an enlightening guided tour of the Waste Transfer Station. This is an opportunity to witness firsthand what happens to your recyclables and to understand the intricacies of waste management that help maintain our community's cleanliness and sustainability. We are conveniently located opposite SNB bank in Discovery Square, and there is no need to register in advance.
