Event Details

Established in 2021 by artist Christoph Faulhaber, SAAI Factory is an initiative and one of the first contemporary art-based hackathons on Artificial Intelligence. The hackathon provides a framework for hackers, artists, coders, designers, tech evangelists, creatives, and developers from all disciplines to come together and explore the possibilities opened by artificial intelligence as a field of artistic practice.

This panel brings together three experts in the intersection of artificial intelligence and art creation: Mohamed Elhoseiny, Luba Elliott, Christoph Faulhaber and James She, each of whom has a unique perspective on how AI is transforming the art world: Elhoseiny, a computer scientist, examines how machines and creativity relate; Elliott, a curator and researcher, observes AI's impact on the art market; Faulhaber is a visual artist and SAAI Factory's founder and James She is tackling how AI can be used for the preservation of cultural heritage. Together, they will discuss the opportunities and challenges of using AI in art and its influence on the future of the art world.

At the Islamic Arts Biennale, they will present the second edition of SAAI Factory, which is taking place throughout various locations in the Kingdom in 2023. SAAI #2 is calling all interested people to participate in its hackathon, workshop and exhibition series.

This event is organized in collaboration with KAUST, highlighting science, technology and research as part of cultural production and artistic expression in Saudi Arabia.
