South Beach upgrades and temporary access changes

15 December, 2021

As part of our commitment to the continual improvement of Community Life facilities and services, South Beach is getting an upgrade! Starting from Monday, December 20, we will be replacing the sand to provide an even better beach experience. Over the next few weeks, South Beach will undergo temporary changes so beach users can still enjoy the facility during the re-sanding process. Please see the changes listed below:

South Beach mini beach

To help keep the beach and activities open during this time, we’ve created a mini beach where you will have the access to the swimming area as well as wet inflatables, relaxing loungers, and watersports such as pedalos, kayaks, windsurfs, and paddleboards.

South Beach operating times

Due to the maintenance work, we are canceling the ladies-only Mondays during the maintenance period. We will host a ladies-only event on Friday, January 7 from 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M.. The beach operating hours will remain the same, with Mondays open to all beach users.

Watersport activities in the Canal, IRC, and KAM park

For some different top-notch Red Sea experiences, why not try the snorkeling sessions or watersports on the canal. We put these on specifically to support the beach re-sanding, so it’s the perfect time to enjoy these exciting activities!

Other beaches to try out

Here are a few other ways to enjoy our Red Sea coast:

  • North Beach: Located at KAUST near the Island Recreation Club, this beach is set up with colorful umbrellas and chairs to enjoy beautiful views of the Red Sea coast. There is a designated area in shallows for paddling and searching for seashells. There is also access to grills, a volleyball net, and loads of beach space to kick a ball, fly a kite, or build a sand castle. You can bring your pet too. Swimming is not permitted. Here’s a map.
  • KAEC Beach: Only 35 minutes’ drive from KAUST, you can reach many beach options in the King Abdullah Economic City. Bay La Sun beach, Yam beach, or Pure beach are waiting for you to discover. KEAC is offering a special rate at Pure Beach for KAUST Members of SR 125 per person during the period from 16th December 2021 to 29th January 2022. Learn more
  • KAM Park: Why not visit KAM park to enjoy the Red Sea views, monument walk, the fish viewing platform, playgrounds, and more? Here’s a map.
