83 TKS and University students participated in the 2019 WISE Program – the highest number since the program began four years ago.
Our 2019 WISE Interns had the opportunity to participate in many interesting projects throughout the University. Examples include:
- A Community Life intern created a video about life in the community. It has been very well received and is already live on the KAUST YouTube channel.
- An IT intern built an app to automate the timesheet submission for WISE – we look forward to using this next year!
- An HR intern presented during the employee and Postdoc orientation and received great feedback on her engaging presentation.
- Two interns working in Physical Science and Engineering (PSE) – under the guidance of Aamir Farooq – learnt about the use of laser absorption and shock tube for the study of critical chemical reactions, and also studied the potential of ether based bio-fuels.
KAUST President, Dr. Tony Chan, delivered an inspiring speech at the WISE closing ceremony and, along with Chris Sealey, Vice President of Community Life, presented the interns with their certificates. In addition, Michael Berumen presented a funny and lighthearted speech about the importance of pursuing your interests (work and life) and maintaining a good work/life balance – something we could all learn more about!
Community Life would like to thank the WISE team, The KAUST School and HR for their excellent collaboration on this program, which ensures its continued success. We would also like to give special thanks to the Mentors for giving their time and vast expertise to our WISE Interns – without the efforts of our Mentors, this program would not be possible. Last but not least, we would like to thank the interns for their participation in such a wonderful program.
We hope to see you all again in 2020!
