Thrift Shop Thrives!

14 January, 2020

After a successful start in 2019, the “Second Chance” Thrift Shop will re-open on Wednesday, January 15. Over the winter break, volunteers from the community have been busy collecting donations so there are lots of new bargains ready for the opening.

The shop will be open on Saturdays, from 2 P.M.-6 P.M. and on Wednesdays, from 10 A.M.-12 P.M. and 2 P.M.-4 P.M.

Located in the arcades by the canal, to the west of the Grand Mosque on Exploration Avenue, the shop is a treasure trove of unusual and everyday items.

NEW—Shop for adult clothing!

For the first time, from Saturday, January 18, the Thrift Shop will be selling pre-loved adult clothes, shoes and accessories. These greatly requested items will have their own arcade, joining the original three arcades selling: household and decorative items; books, electronics, outdoor; kids’ toys, clothes, and equipment.

The community group’s volunteers run the shop so that donated items can be purchased at a low price and reused by those who live or work at KAUST. The group is working with the Social Responsibility team at KAUST so that the shop’s profits can support outreach programs in Thuwal. During the busy first days of opening last year, 1,074 donated items were purchased which raised over 8,000SAR. The team would like to thank everyone who donated or purchased items.

Volunteers needed!

To continue to open, the Thrift Shop needs the community’s support as donors and volunteers. To find out more about how to donate items or to volunteer your time to help run the shop, please email secondchance.kaust@gmail.com. The shop will be closed on from 2 P.M.-4 P.M. on Wednesday, January 15, due to low volunteer numbers. If you’d like to join the team and meet new people, please email or come to the shop during opening hours to find out more.
