Community Life is pleased to announce the soft launch of a convenient
car e-rental service “SHIFT inc.” to community members. Shift inc. is a
pioneer in the Middle East and is introducing an innovative car rental
application that enables customers to book a vehicle online and pick it
up from selected locations within the premises of KAUST.

How to book a vehicle
Booking requests can be made by downloading the Shift inc. mobile
application (see QR code below) and then by selecting the desired
pick-up location and car model from the list. You will be prompted to go
to the designated pick-up location where the car will be waiting for
you. Unlock the car by using the application and enjoy the ride.
Upon your return, simply park the car at any designated location
within KAUST’s boundaries, lock the car with the app and you are safe to
As this is a soft launch, 10 vehicles will serve the KAUST community
as a pilot program. Initial pick-up points will be from Tamimi parking
lot and the Harbor Car Park. Drop-off locations can be at any legal
parking spot within KAUST, including your accommodation parking.
The users of the e-renal system will need to comply with the pilot progam’s guidelines:
- booking should be made at least two hours prior to pick-up time
- pick-up time is from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
- drop-off time is from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m.
- pick-up locations are currently restricted to Tamimi parking lot and
the Harbor Car Park; in the near future we will increase the pick-up
locations to five zones
The Shift inc. e-rental car service can be accessed through the App
store or by using the QR code below. An Android version will be
implemented in the next few weeks.
