Photography Club

Community Clubs | Photography Club

The Photography Club has been part of the KAUST community since 2010. If you work, live or study at KAUST you can join the club. We are a place for photographers of all levels of ability to meet and share our enthusiasm for photography, learn new techniques and improve our skills.

  • The club has a dedicated studio in the Island Recreation Center (IRC) which includes a range of professional grade equipment and a learning area for members. There are two dedicated desktop computers with color corrected monitors, Wacom digitizing tablets and a selection of image editing programs.

Our teaching sessions and workshops start at 7pm on most Tuesdays. The club operates from early September till late April.

For those who are new or just starting out in photography we have a Beginners Track offering an Introductory Course to Photography. The course is free and assumes no prior knowledge. You don't need to know anything about photography and you don't need a 'fancy, digital' camera; the camera in your mobile phone will be OK to start with.

    Here's what you’ll learn:

    • Selecting and using photographic equipment
    • Understanding light
    • Controlling exposure and understanding camera settings
    • Composition and visual storytelling
    • Selecting a computer, organizing a digital workflow and image editing
    • Showcasing your images and building a portfolio

We offer a number of workshops throughout the year, which should appeal to all photographers from novices to the more experienced. Examples of the topics we cover include the traditional themes such as Portraits, Landscape, and Travel photography to the less traditional ones such as, Macro photography, Painting with Light, Astrophotography, Product photography and Time Lapse. This is only an example list and our club members choose which topics they want to cover.

Club members are welcome to attend the Introductory Course and the workshops. The annual membership fee of SAR 100 covers all the above.

The club also has a Facebook page

To join the club either send an email to and attach a photo or scan of your KAUST ID badge or drop in and join one of the Tuesday club sessions.
